I feel like I’m in the recycling industry. And that’s largely because We Are Cult opted to delete my work from their site. Why? Your guess is as good as mine.
I would have thought some of the writers I worked closely besides (Huw Thomas, James R Turner..) might have protested, since we all started roughtly around the same time. Not a peep from any of them.
Well, loyalty belongs to the British (look at Northern Ireland), so I’ll carve my own path. I’ll do what I can to reproduce the work as faithfully as I can (I’ve been reliably told by a terrific music journalist that I’m completely in the right to do so), but bear with me, because I’m reproducing four years of work. Sigh!
How do I feel about We Are Cult? It would be ungentlemanly of me to say, but the matter is they’ve gone from interviewing luminaries like Jeff Wayne and Wilko Johnson to John Dredge (think of your blandest comic, and you’re still not close) in a meagre five and a bit years is telling. Recently WAC blabbed about their readers…A month for them was roughly a bad day for Far Out Magazine.
I won’t comment on their writing (I did contribute for four years, y’know), but I don’t think they’re well served by their leader. Gent? Well, the last two letters are correct. Cult? We’re one letter off ;)
Editor’s note: An early draft included an unfair swipe at poet and author Ange Chan. Apologies for any offence caused to her.
LOL
